Special Initiatives

North Brooklyn Parks Alliance was founded as Open Space Alliance for North Brooklyn in 2003. Though our name now reflects our focus on parks in Greenpoint and Williamsburg, we also remain committed to uplifting all public open space in Brooklyn’s Community Board 1! With an eye towards equity, NBK Parks has created a new model for successfully expanding, maintaining, and programming open spaces in a dense urban setting through both direct management and collaboration across government agencies, community organizations, and volunteer groups. Our efforts also align with the City of New York’s prioritization of improving the shared public spaces through an inter-agency approach led by the Director of the Public Realm. Check out some of our upcoming, current, and past Special Initiatives related to the public realm below!
