Neighborhood Services

A space becomes a place when it is cared for and has amenities like shade, seating, programming, and greenery.

ABOUT OUR MOBILE CREW

Across North Brooklyn, we work with local advocates and city partners to turn temporary activations, like open streets, into lasting neighborhood assets. Our mobile crew provides services — cleaning, collecting trash, delivering event supplies, and watering — for a growing network of plazas and corridors.

One of our most impactful services are the routine stops we make at community dog runs in McGolrick Park, Cooper Park, Sternberg Park, and McCarren Park. Our crew sweeps the dog run entrances, levels ground cover, clears trash cans to mitigate poop bag overflow, and checks the area for pet hazards. We also support community-lead volunteer groups with large scale clean-ups and repairs.

The NBK Parks maintenance team augments work performed by the Parks Department on designated Green Streets and completes high priority service requests across the district. Projects like snow removal, power washing, installing new planters, and emergency clearing of catch basins are a testament to the flexibility of our neighborhood operations.

Our mobile crew plays an essential role in our community programming by delivering tools, tables, and lending a hand at events across the district. We partner regularly with volunteers on Open Streets activations and collaborate with our elected officials on community clean-ups, tree guard building, and street tree bed maintenance.

Bankers Anchor Plaza. This popular neighborhood spot requires extra care: we regularly pick up trash, repaint the tables, refresh the planters, and water the plants.

Horticultural Assistance. Our mobile crew works a few days a week alongside our gardeners in McGolrick and Bushwick Inlet Park.

Unincorporated Dog Runs. These spaces are underfunded and underserved, despite being some of the most heavily used features of our parks. We’re proud to assist volunteers with the heavy lift of maintaining the dog runs.

Street Tree Care. We’ve worked with elected officials, local businesses, and volunteers to install tree guards along an entire corridor through the Williamsburg Industrial Business Zone.

Delivering Supplies. Our community events would not be possible without the tools and supplies that the crew organizes, maintains, and delivers wherever needed.
